Stage 4 Lockdown and Implications for Galilee

Dear Parents/Caregivers,

Once again we find ourselves in a challenging circumstance. The short notice may put a strain upon families and workplaces but it’s important that we are here to support each other. We are hopeful that our change in routine will only be for a short time. Please assure your children that they are safe. Sharon, our school counsellor, will be sending home some tips for parents on Monday.

I am writing to you following the announcement that Victorian is moving into Lockdown from midnight tonight, Friday 12th February, until midnight on Wednesday, 17th February.

“On the advice of our public health experts, the whole of Victoria will move to circuit-breaker action from 11:59pm tonight until 11:59pm on Wednesday, 17 February. That means there will be four reasons to leave your home: shopping for the things you need, care and caregiving, exercise and work, if it is essential.” - Premier’s Media Release: February 12, 2021

As a result of the announcement and lockdown, all Victorian Schools will be closed on Monday 15th February, Tuesday 16th February and Wednesday 17th February, 2021.

“For school students, that means learning from home (Premier stated that homework was to be given), unless they need onsite supervision as the children of essential workers... the short answer is – if you were a permitted worker during Stage 4 restrictions – you’ll most likely be an essential worker now too. For everyone else, we need you to work from home.”  - Premier’s Media Release: February 12, 2021

Galilee will only be able to offer supervision for vulnerable children or children where both parents are essential workers.

As was the case last year, we are limited in the amount of students that we can have onsite. Parents of children who required care last year, due to the two reasons outlined above, have been sent a Caremonkey form that needs to be completed by Saturday 13th February, 2021 at 1pm indicating the days and times you require care for your child/ren as we need to arrange adequate staff supervision.

Families who are new to Galilee this year have been sent a Caremonkey form that needs to be filled out if you require your child/ren to be supervised. If your child/ren need to be supervised next week you will need to provide evidence upon arrival at school that both parents/careers are essential workers.

If your circumstances have changed from last year and both parents/carers are now considered essential workers please contact Wendy at wdalton@gsm.catholic.edu.au by Saturday 13th February at 1pm on so that you can be sent the Caremonkey form.

Please note; that children who are permitted to attend Galilee on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday will be supervised but will not be given extra work or tuition other than the optional Homework set by their classroom teacher.

Schools have been advised that we are to provide students with Homework only. Students at Galilee will be sent optional Homework activities via Dojo. These optional homework tasks will be posted on Dojo on Monday 15th February, by 11:00am. The Homework set by classroom and specialist teachers is not compulsory.  Completed work can be shared with teachers via email or Dojo. Teachers can be contacted between the hours of 9am - 3.30pm via email or Dojo on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

Unfortunately, our Year 6 Canberra Camp, that was to happen next week, has been postponed. We are in discussion with the Canberra Camp Tour operators to secure a date for the Camp in Term 4.  As soon as we have secured a new date for the Year 6 Canberra Camp we will communicate it to you.

We wish you and your family every blessing over the next five days. We look forward to seeing you all back at school on Thursday 18th February, 2021.

Kind Regards,

Simon Millar
