COVID Lockdown and Implications for Galilee
27th May, 2021
Once again we find ourselves in a challenging circumstance. The short notice may put a strain upon families and workplaces but it’s important that we are here to support each other. We are hopeful that our change in routine will only be for a short time. Please assure your children that they are safe. Sharon, our school counsellor, will be sending home some tips for parents on Monday.
I am writing to you following the announcement that Victoria is moving into Lockdown from midnight tonight, Thursday 27th May, until midnight on Thursday, 3rd June.
‘On the advice of our public health experts, the whole of Victoria will move to circuit-breaker action from 11:59pm tonight until 11:59pm on Thursday 3rd June. That means there will be five reasons to leave your home: shopping for the things you need, care and caregiving, exercise and work, if it is essential and to get vaccinated.’ - Acting Premier’s Press Conference: 27th May, 2021
As a result of the announcement and lockdown, all Victorian Schools will be closed on Friday 28th May, Monday 31st May, Tuesday 1st June, Wednesday 2nd June and Thursday 3rd June 2021.
‘For school students, that means remote learning, unless they need onsite supervision as the children of essential workers... the short answer is – if you were a permitted worker during the last circuit lockdown in February – you’ll most likely be an essential worker now too. For everyone else, we need you to work from home.’ - Acting Premier’s Press Conference: 27th May, 2021
Galilee will only be able to offer supervision for vulnerable children or children where both parents are essential workers.
As was the case last lockdown, we are limited in the amount of students that we can have onsite. Parents of children who have previously provided evidence to the school that both parents are essential workers, have been contacted by Wendy and Tegan.
If your circumstances have changed since the last lockdown and your child/ren need to be supervised at school tomorrow, because both parents are essential workers, please email Wendy in the front office: firstname.lastname@example.org by Thursday 27th at 7pm so that we can clarify your circumstances. If your child/ren needs to be supervised on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday next week you will need to provide evidence upon arrival at school that both parents/careers are essential workers and complete the Operoo form.
Please note; that children who are permitted to attend Galilee on Friday of this week or Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday of next week will be supervised but will not be given extra work or tuition other than the optional Homework set by their classroom teacher.
Schools have been advised that we are to provide students with remote learning opportunities. During this short snap lockdown Galilee will provide students with remote learning activities that will be shared via Dojo (Prep - Year 5) or Google Classroom (Year 6). Activities to be completed on Friday 28th of May will be shared at 8.30am on Friday 28th May. Activities to be completed on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of next week, will be posted on Dojo on Monday 31st May at 8.30am. We will also ask students to attend a daily Google Hangout with their classroom teacher. Prep - Year 2 students will be required to attend a daily Google Hangout session at 9am. A link to each classroom's Google Hangout meeting will be sent out via Dojo at 8.30am. Year 3 - Year 6 students will be required to attend a daily Google Hangout session at 10am. A link to each classroom’s Google Hangouts meeting will be sent out via Dojo at 8.30am.
Optional Google Hangout Focus Groups:
Prep to Year 6 will have a daily Priority Tasks that will be highlighted with an allocated day on the Remote Learning Grid. The daily Priority Tasks will be explained during the whole class Google Hangout. The daily Priority Task is to be completed by 6pm each day and can be shared with teachers via email, Dojo or Google Classroom (Year 6 only). Feedback will be provided on Priority Tasks within 24hrs of submission.
Teaching staff can be contacted between the hours of 9am - 3.30pm via email or Dojo on Friday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
Unfortunately, a number of events on our school calendar will be cancelled or postponed due to the snap lockdown. We are currently in discussion regarding the following events and we will notify you of alternate dates as soon as we can.
At this stage:
As soon as we have secured new dates for postponed events we will communicate it to you. If any other events on our calendar become affected by COVID restrictions we will inform you as soon as we can.
If you require a computer for Home Learning, please ring the school, press 1 and leave a message stating that you require a device. For example, John Smith, 2G Chromebook. These will be available for pick up from 2.30pm today from the front office.
In light of this event, our weekly bulletin will go out to families tomorrow, Friday 28th May.
We wish you and your family every blessing over the next seven days. We look forward to seeing you all back at school on Friday 4th June, 2021.
