From the Principal

Dear Mothers of Galilee,

Wishing you all a wonderful day on Sunday. We have two new mums on staff, Julie Ferguson and Carmen Carnovale. We also have two soon-to-be mums leaving on Maternity Leave, Karen Jones and Tegan Stuart.
I thank Karen and Tegan for their work at Galilee as we look forward to welcoming a new person to their families.
Tomorrow we look forward to recognising our mums with a morning tea, Mass and luncheon. An opportunity of purchasing a 'surprise' gift has been sent home via DOJO and the DOGs.
Please see below a video with Tegan and myself, filmed by our student Digital technology Leaders.

Congratulations to Mrs Ferguson and her husband Scott on the arrival of their beautiful baby girl. Delaney Denise Ferguson arrived 2 weeks and 5 days early on Monday 25th April, weighing 3.05kgs!

Building Project Update
Our building project is moving into the final phase of completion. Finalisation of hand dryers, taps and television screens is currently occurring. It has been a journey over six years and we are getting excited over the 'state of the art' facilities that will soon be ours to use. Please open the link below to view the journey.

Building Project Update

Uniform
Next week students need to be in their new winter uniforms. The school appreciates every effort made by families to ensure that the correct uniform is worn by all students.
Please ensure that all articles of clothing and footwear are clearly marked with your child’s name. Year 6 students may continue to wear the old uniform for the remainder of the year. The following items may be continued to be used, maroon school bag, jumper, book bags, navy pants and rugby top.

Uniform Policy

Inter School Sport
Last Friday our students participated in Inter School Sport against St Finbar's in East Brighton. It was a home match and I was fortunate to be able to watch our netballers compete. The rain held off and the afternoon was enjoyed by all. See below for an interview with students.

Year Five STEM Projects

This week our Year Five students presented their STEM projects that they have been working on over the last four weeks at school. The students designed safe and inclusive playgrounds and used the Stanford Design Process to guide their thinking. Students loved being involved in this hands-on learning opportunity. Enhancing STEM Education is a priority at Galilee this year and we are thrilled to see students engaged in these types of projects. Throughout 2022, staff will continue to be involved in professional development in STEM Education. Our new building will offer state of the art facilities so students can engage in a range of STEM based learning  activities, in our purpose built STEM Room and Maker Space. The STEM Room will be equipped with sinks, ovens, wet areas, large tables, ample floor space and easy access to equipment such as hot glue guns. The Maker Space will also have ovens, sinks and a large space for students to work.

Wellbeing

Sensible Thinking

By understanding how your emotions are created and controlled, you will be aware of when they could be affecting your sensible thinking. Your emotions are created by your brain's amygdala and controlled by your prefrontal cortex.
When you notice that your emotions are becoming stronger, stop and breathe deeply for five seconds to self-calm yourself, so that you can think sensibly. If you don't do this, your ability to make good decisions is really reduced.

Peaceful Kids

Throughout Term 1 all the Prep students participated in the Peaceful Kids program.

Peaceful Kids’ is a Mindfulness and Positive Psychology-based program designed to lessen anxiety and stress and increase resilience in children. The developmentally appropriate program provides a framework to develop in children coping strategies that lessen the symptoms of anxiety and stress.

Outcomes of the Peaceful Kids program:

  • Reduce symptoms of anxiety and stress in children
  • Teach children to self-calm
  • Empower children to manage their own anxiety and stress symptoms
  • Build emotional resilience
  • Develop emotional intelligence skills
  • Teach children life-long skills to manage stress and prevent stress build-up
  • Group sessions help to normalise anxiety

Peaceful kids groups will run for years 1-6 starting in Term 2. If you would like your child to be involved in the program or would like any further information please contact Sharon scameron@gsm.vic.edu.au

TheirCare

Dear families,

We hope you are well!

Our children are fantastic, and we are incredibly happy to see them coming  more and more every single day.

We had an outstanding holiday program and very beautiful first two weeks of the new term.

Photos will describe everything better than words.

We had no injuries or accidents and as usual, children don't want to go home after GOSH.
Our preps have become more confident and significantly improved their communication skills. Proud to mention, that older children are helping the little ones to feel secure and welcomed.

If you need to join GOSH or book children in for the morning or afternoon, you can do so at www.theircare.com.au

Have a wonderful weekend and see you soon!
