Term 3 - Welcome back
We hope you all had a wonderful and relaxing break. We have had a fantastic start to Term 3 with different activities and learning happening across the board. Below is a short clip from our SRC team about their first week back.
We have some exciting excursions coming up for our middle and senior students. Next week, Year Five and Six students will be heading to the Melbourne Museum.
Monday 18th July - Year 5M
Tuesday 19th July - Year 6
Wednesday 20th July - Year 5R
The Year Four students will attend in Week 3. Also in Week Three, our Year Six students will visit the Mary Mackillop Centre.
We would like to thank families for remaining diligent with COVID-19 and flu symptoms. We encourage you to continue to use Rapid Antigen Tests for COVID-19 (more tests are available at the office if you would like to collect them) and keeping students at home who are displaying symptoms associated with COVID-19 or the flu. The number of student and staff absences are returning to a normal level and we thank our community for remaining diligent.
Family members are asked to continue reporting positive COVID-19 cases to both the Department of Health and our own Google Form.
You must also let the school know if your child is a close contact. Students who are close contacts and want to attend should still take 5 RATs over 7 days and wear a face mask whilst indoors if they are aged 8 years or over. Students should continue to stay home if they are unwell, even if they test negative on a RAT.
Thank you for your support as we continue to make these adjustments.
Semester One Student Reports will be available on Friday 22nd July, 2022.
On Friday afternoon you will receive an email from no-reply@nforma.com.au
This email will have the directions of how to access your child's report.
This week the Year 6 students along with Miss Burns, Mr McLeish and Mr Mapley were in Canberra for their school camp. They have visited places like Parliament House, High Court and the War Memorial where they attended the Last Post Ceremony.
Here is a touching moment with our school captains, Sammy and Anabel at the Australian War Memorial, laying a wreath for Galilee.
The Year 4 Camp will take place on 3rd – 5th August at Angahook in Anglesea. Please respond to the Operoo by Monday 18th July.
There will be an online Year 4 Parent Information Session on Wednesday 27th July at 2:30pm where more details about the camp will be discussed and question will be answered.
We are very excited to welcome Lucie Gilmour and Nelson Perrott to Galilee.
Lucie comes to us with experience working as a teacher and nurse and will be in 3G this term.
Nelson will be supporting Year 1 students as a learning support officer and is already a familiar face within the community as he completed his placement here last term and is also a past student.
Galilee welcomed two babies over the holidays!
Have a fantastic Term 3!
Best Wishes,
Carlo Martello

The Sacrament of Confirmation will be celebrated this term. The dates are as follows:
Come Holy spirit, be with our Confirmation candidates always.
Show them how to use Your seven gifts: Wisdom, Understanding, Knowledge, Fortitude, Counsel, Piety and Fear of The Lord in ways to help their community, family and friends.
Allow them to faithfully follow Jesus every day of their lives.
Help them to make wise and good decisions.
Comfort them in times of trouble.
Celebrate with them in times of joy.
Reveal your everlasting love to them, so they may grow as your precious child, becoming everything you destined them to be.
We pray this in the mighty name of Jesus,
Amen
Arte has had some big adventures over the holidays. The first week Arte attended Lead the Way Institute for her recertification. Arte passed all her assessments and had an incredible day, we are all so proud of all her hard work.
Unfortunately last week Arte developed some tenderness and bloating in her abdomen, she had surgery on Thursday night. The surgery involved removing part of her bowel, this has been sent away for testing. It is all a bit unknown at this stage as to the cause, we hope to get the results by the end of the week. Arte has spent four nights in hospital at Advanced Vet Care in Kensington. Those of you who know Arte will not be surprised to hear she quickly became all the staff's favourite dog, the care she received there has been amazing!
The hospital is always in need of towels, if you have any old spare towels you no longer need, could you please drop them at the gate in the morning or the office before Tuesday 19th. We will deliver the towels when Arte returns for her review.
Obviously Arte will be taking some sick leave for the next couple of weeks while she takes some time to recuperate. Arte is very much looking forward to being back at school and working with all the kids and staff as soon as she can.
The Galilee Prep Transition Sessions will commence this term. These sessions are for children commencing Prep in 2023.
2023 Prep Transition Session Dates and Times are as follows:
Could all Year Level Representatives, Parent Helpers and GPA members please ensure a copy of their current WWCC has been submitted to the school office.
If yours has expired or you have not already submitted one, they can be submitted in person or sent via email to iwebster@gsm.vic.edu.au.
If you could please ensure that the school has a current WWCC by Monday 25th July 2022.
After this date an audit will be complete and if the school does not have a copy of your WWCC, you may be unable to assist with school events.
School Photos have been rescheduled to Tuesday 9th August 2022.

Please refer to flyer on how to order school photos.
Positive Self-Talk
Effort - I can and I will
Positive Self-talk builds your wellbeing to:
Here are some examples of self-talk you can use:
Kids just want to be kids, but instead of playing sports with their friends or catching butterflies on a sunny day, kids with genetic diseases are getting liver transplants, taking dozens of medications, or getting their next dose of chemotherapy. It shouldn’t be this way. By donating through Jeans for Genes, you can help the scientists at Children’s Medical research Institute find cures, so these kids can go back to being kids.
Galilee will be holding a fundraiser event on the very last day of term, Friday 16th September to help this amazing cause. We have set up a website where you will be able to directly donate money to or you will be able to give $2 on the day and wear your favourite jeans to help support this amazing cause.
Parents Battle of the Bands returns this year on the 11 August 2022 at The Prince Bandroom (29 Fitzroy St, St Kilda VIC 3182).
Last year Galilee raised $900.00 and we are aiming to do better that this year.
It is a great social night for the school and the wider local school community. We are up against the following schools:
Tickets can be purchased at:
Remember to select P.O.G.S. (Galilee PS) when ordering tickets, so that the money goes to the school.
Last year the event sold out, so get it quick.
Good afternoon dear parents,
Despite the rain and construction, it's a beautiful day!
These past few weeks have been outstanding. The children even created the slogan for every single day "it was the shortest day in my life!".
Let's see the activities we did each day…..
Monday: capture the flag / freeze tag /clay sculptures / bracelets / necklaces / loom bands
Tuesday: drawing abstract art / loop gliders / incursion with reptiles (yes, we got to pat all of them!) / paper cup animals / capture the flag / fruit salad / musical chairs / made birds / built castles from cards / made colour codes
Wednesday: arcade games to Archie Bros / obstacle run /drawing our friends / group games
Thursday: made lanterns, Chinese dragon puppets, origami, masks and drums / played fruit salad, footy and octopus / paper plane races
Friday: designed bags / made presents for family and friends / made friendship bracelets and paper animals / colour touch / musical chairs
It was a brilliant week, full of fun, positive vibes and happiness.
Children really enjoyed themselves and asked us to call parents to pick them up around 5pm and not any earlier. One child who was picked up at 3pm returned 20 minutes later as he wanted to go back to GOSH!
Please don’t forget to book your children via www.theircare.com.au.
