Performing Arts

Performing Arts involves students learning specific skills and techniques. They learn skills in a combination of music, dance and drama.

In Music, students use their voices to sing well-known songs. They also use their bodies to add movement. Students use a range of percussion instruments including boomwhackers, bells, tone blocks and xyplohphones.

Students build knowledge of pitch, rhythm, dynamics and tempo including rhythmic patterns and musical notation.

In Dance, students focus on the use of fundamental locomotor and non-locomotor movement for example traveling movements and stationary movements. Students explore safe dance practices and use choreographic devices such as repetition, sequence and canon to create dance sequences.

In Drama, students explore ideas for characters and situations through dramatic play. They use voice, facial expressions and movement to create characters. Students present devised and scripted drama that develops a narrative to engage an audience.
